Half a millennium on from the famous etchings of the Seven Ancient Wonders of The World, an organisation from Switzerland decided the list was perhaps a little outdated, and embarked on a mission of polling the public on what the New 7 Wonders of The World should be. They had a point, given a majority on the original list lie in ruins, or simply don’t exist today. All that, and things tend to change a tad in 500 years!

So in 2007, the votes were counted and the New 7 Wonders were revealed in no particular order as:
- Great Wall of China, China
- Machu Picchu, Peru
- Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
- Petra, Jordan
- Colosseum, Italy
- Taj Mahal, India
- Chichen Itza, Mexico
Why is the list not ordered, I hear you ask? Well, apparently the actual votes and rankings of the top 7 New Wonders were never revealed. How hush hush! Yet not too surprising, given the Swiss stance of neutrality and secrecy.
This missed opportunity means that we have no way of knowing how they compare to each other. Or do we?! Well, fear not my fellow Timbuk2Stu-ers! I will now rank these in order of their wondrousness, whilst providing a few reasons as to why. You can click on the country headings below to dive into more detail.
1. Great Wall of China

2. Machu Picchu

3. Taj Mahal

4. Petra

5. Colosseum

6. Christ the Redeemer

?. Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza is “To Be Continued…”. I’ve not been there yet, but it’s on my list! Mrs Timbuk2Stu has been, but my philosophy is that I only post authentic first-hand experiences, with authentic first-hand imagery. Otherwise, I feel it is a disservice. However, Mrs Timbuk2Stu has reassured me that Chichen Itza would stand in position 6 in this list, slightly beating Christ the Redeemer.
So there you have it! The New 7 Wonders ranked in order of wondrousness! Of course, there is room for subjectivity here, so If you’ve visited multiple wonders (especially Chichen Itza), I’d love to hear how you feel they compare with each other. What order would you put them in? Pop a reply in the comments below to let me know your thoughts!
